PLEASE DO NOT SEND UNSOLICITED ATTACHMENTS – THIS INCLUDES JPEGS, MP3S, PDFS – SEND US LINKS ONLY TO YOUR ONLINE PRESSKIT, MYSPACE PAGE, HOMEPAGE, OR ANYWHERE ELSE MUSIC IS POSTED
Greetings Artists Agents and other Musical Vagabonds, Mike Delehanty here, Talent Buyer. We are strongly committed to the Development of GREAT MUSIC here at Harpers Ferry and we want to form LONG TERM PROMOTIONAL relationships with all the Bands and Acts we get behind. Harpers Ferry is a 400 capacity room, it’s the size of an airplane hangar, and can be very depressing to play when it’s empty. Therefore please think about how many fans you can pull into Harpers Ferry before you ask for a gig here. There are many smaller clubs in the area. If you are just getting established, it may be better for you to play some of the smaller rooms and build up a fan base before you try to play Harpers Ferry too early on.
What kind of music do you book?
We book what we consider to be the best National, Regional, and local bands of ALL styles. We look for Exciting, Energetic, Crowd Pleasing bands who have an intense and borderline shameless desire to promote themselves. We don’t do much Metal, Hardcore or Jazz, or folkie solo singer songwriter types, but if it’s a good show and it makes sense, we’d do it.
Do you book touring bands?
YES WE DO and we love them – BUT – if you are a touring band, you will need to have your poop together and give us reasons why you won’t be playing in a big empty room. Distribution, radio, decent PR, a label, some infrastructure behind you, some history of playing other clubs here, lots of college friends in Boston – these are some great reasons why we’ll want to book your band.
How does my band get a gig at Harpers Ferry?
Send us a LINK, a LINK A LINK A LINK – Not a file – again, A LINK, NOT A FILE – A link to where your music is posted online. If you don’t have a website with music posted on it, that’s probably a good indicator that you aren’t ready for primetime. Myspace links are not only ok, but fantastic. Send this link to gigs at harpersferryboston dot com – Give us a month or so to digest it (sometimes it’s faster, sometimes it’s slower) and then send a followup email. Please don’t add that email address to your elist.
So I’ve emailed you a dozen times, I’ve called and left messages and I STILL don’t have a gig at Harpers Ferry, What the F*&k??
Hey, be cool, have some patience, and understand that there are thousands of thousands of bands and only one of us. We can’t possibly give EVERY band a gig. Distinguish yourself in the scene a bit, come hang out here, play some shows at other clubs, build it up, get some press, make some stuff happen for your act, and we’ll hop on board eventually.
I know I can pack Harpers Ferry on a Saturday Night, why do I have to play a Monday or a Tuesday?
Hey, we start off all new bands on crappy nights, that’s just how it is. We hold the hoop up really high and we want you to Bust Your Ass to jump through it. We’ll help you of course, but we want you to put the same effort in when you finally ARE playing on good nights. If your fans are committed enough to you, they’ll come out and see you!
Once I get a gig, what’s expected of me?
PROMOTE THE LIVING HECK OUT OF YOURSELF! Send us posters, send us jpegs of your band and your logo. Show up on time for soundcheck. Leave your ego at the door. Give your fans an amazing show. Do everything within your power to put as many thirsty heads in here as you can – we’ll be doing the same on our end. There’s more detail on this in the Promo Tools, Tips and Policies Page
How will I drive you completely insane and insure that my band NEVER gets a gig at Harpers Ferry?
Please limit your attempts to contact us to ONCE A WEEK. Please don’t speed dial the booking line hoping somebody will eventually pick up. Don’t show up at the club and ambush any of the staff or Mike Delehanty with your demo or your crazy life story. Don’t send us unsolicited attached files. In fact, keep your communications short and to the point. Again, understand that we can’t give everyone a gig, and sometimes your music may just not be what we are looking for. Don’t give up, but don’t take it personally either. If you grow in other clubs or other scenes, that’s fine.
Thanks, and MAY ALL YOUR ROCK N’ ROLL DREAMS COME TRUE!
